The departmental mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer through excellent clinical imaging services and education. The department features a team of highly dedicated and skilled physicians, nurses, technologists and staff who specialize in imaging by utilizing the most advanced technology for screening, diagnosis, intervention and surveillance.

Our pathologists in hematopathology and laboratory medicine act as consultants to the clinician, defining appropriate tests and interpreting their results. After diagnosis, additional tests may be performed to assess prognosis, progression of the disease and response to treatment. Our pathologists and clinical laboratories are actively involved in the translation of new discoveries into clinical diagnostics, with new testing and new methodologies being added continuously.

Our approach is to provide our patients with experienced physicians who are experts in their tumor site. Better outcomes depend on combining the latest technology and innovations with a team of cancer specialists. Surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, nurses, dieticians and internists work closely with our doctors every day to determine the best approach for the patient.

Our team of expert pathologists in anatomic pathology evaluate tissue and organ samples at both the molecular and cellular level to identify specific characteristics and council clinicians on treatment options.

As part of the treatment, we offer radiation therapy, which involves precisely controlled beams of high-energy radiation that destroy cancer cells.

Chemotherapy is a drug taken by mouth or through your vein to treat cancer by interfering with the growth of cells that cause the disease. Some treatments can also affect normal cell growth, which is why some patients may experience side effects.

Surgery often is an integral part of a cancer treatment plan. With groundbreaking research and a team of highly skilled and specialized surgeons, surgery can offer the greatest chances of a successful outcome at KIMS. Traditionally, cancer surgery is performed to cure your cancer by physically removing it from your body. Surgery can be used for diagnosis, treatment or prevention.

We work closely with staff from our palliative care program to help patients manage pain and the side effects of cancer treatment.
