Neuro Rehabilitation Centre

Neurorehabilitation is a collection processes that are case specific which focus on aiding a person's recovery, or help that individual to live a more normal, active, and independent life. The quality of life of a person can be greatly affected by a brain or spinal cord injury, or a medical condition which affects the mobility, cognitive functions, or other physical or psychological processes that have been affected by changes in the nervous system.

Neuro-physiotherapists specialise in a functional, task-oriented approach to rehabilitation. Sessions are focussed on optimizing each individual's ability to perform the activities that matter most to them. Our rehabilitation programmes are evidence based and tailored to the individual, en-cooperating novel and innovative approaches to recovery.

The Neuro-rehabilitation specialist evaluates and makes a comprehensive management plan, provides medical management and performs therapeutic procedures. The rehab plan provides optimal environment for recovery, functional improvement, reduction in secondary complications, impairments & disability, teaching compensatory strategies, appropriate equipment & modifications and continuity of care.

Some of these will test overall brain function, some will look at specific task functions. Additionally, neuropsychologist will use tests teamed with an understanding of your difficulties to develop a comprehensive picture of what might be going on for you and what treatment could help.

Treatment Options:

Physiotherapy and remediation treatments help restore lost skills through repetitive, specialist exercises. Physiotherapists can help to alleviate any physical difficulties or disability that the injury may have caused.

Occupational Therapy and its compensatory treatments help utilise intact skills to make up for deficits in other areas. Occupational therapists can help to teach strategies and improve a range of abilities in order to help someone get back to work or to their hobbies and sports.

Speech and Language therapists can help people to work on any language difficulties they have or to overcome issues with swallowing and eating if there is any muscle weakness in the throat.

Our therapists use a variety of modalities and therapy techniques, including:

  • Therapeutic exercise and balance activities
  • Gait Training with use of assistive equipment/devices
  • Splinting, bracing and the use of specialized therapy equipment
  • Neurological re-education of movement and activity patterns
  • Specialized rehabilitation services, such as driving assessments
  • Assistive technology
  • Wheelchair services and seating assessments

Psychological counselling is vitally important to ensure the patient and their family understand their condition and what it entails

Cognitive treatments - the brain as an amazing ability to adapt and recover after initial injury/insult. Parts of the brain can re-purpose themselves to take over the functioning of the damaged areas. This is most effective soon after the injury/insult, when the brain releases certain hormones that help aid recovery and neurogenesis occurs - the growth of new neurons.

Dietitians can help to work on diet plans and eating regimes - this can often be problematic after a brain injury.
