KIMS Hospital is organising a one day 'Rheumatology live workshop' on 10th April 2016. Rheumatology deals with mainly autoimmune disorders. This workshop focuses on basic Clinical Rheumatology and how to identify it so as to reach the right diagnosis. The workshop will have live demonstrations of original cases (patients) and live discussion.
Around 350 doctors are expected to attend the course, primarily consisting of Orthopaedics, Physicians, General Practitioners, Dermatologists and Post Graduates students. Dr. B. Bhaskar Rao, MD and CEO, KIMS Hospitals will be inaugurating the workshop and Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Garu is invited as the Chief Guest.
Speaking about the motto of the workshop Dr. Sarath Chandra Mouli Veeravalli, MD (NIMS), MRCP (UK) Chief Rheumatologist at KIMS said, "The aim of the workshop is to increase awareness about Rheumatology amongst the medical fraternity. At the end of the workshop they will be able to diagnose the most common Rheumatologic conditions with ease. India has a requirement of around 15,000 Rheumatologists to support its huge population; however it is saddening to know that there are only around 500 right now, and currently only a handful of training centres are available in INDIA."
Adding further he said, "It’s a myth that treatment is not available for Rheumatologic conditions in Allopathy but the fact is that we have excellent treatment, and with the benefits offered by Allopathy, one can lead a normal life."
Some of the common symptoms of Rheumatology are joint pains, early morning stiffness of more than one hour, chronic low back pain, prolonged fevers, joint swellings, recurrent mouth ulcers, pink rashes on cheeks on exposure to the sun etc.
What is important is that these symptoms need to be identified promptly by qualified professionals in order to reach early diagnosis and avoid life-threatening complications that can be associated with these diseases. We here at the Rheumatology Department at KIMS excel in this aspect with years of experience and a reputation that speaks for itself.
