Surgical methodology which result in less blood loss and less pain & carried out in a shorter duration
KIMS Hospitals trained medical doctors on a relatively new technique to treat ENT diseases through Coblation-Assisted surgeries. Nearly about 100 junior doctors from all across south Indian regions participated in a one-day LIVE workshop session dealing all about this advanced electrosurgery procedure whish is minimally invasive.
Coblation technology is a new age surgical methodology, which is used to cut unwanted spongy bones or tissues that are obstructive in nature using low thermal technology. In contrast to the conventional methods that are time consuming, the usage of radio frequency bipolar energy causes less damage to the surrounding areas, as it gently breaks down the tissue with very minute levels or no bleeding. This technique has in recent times become popular to treat patients, especially children for tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, nasal, snoring and laryngeal surgeries.
Speaking on the session Dr. Janardhan Rao Jagini, Honorary Consultant, KIMS Hospitals and also the Course Director for the workshop said “Nearly 10% of children would have to some extent sleep apnea problems, which is a common breathing disorder involving blockage of the airway during sleep and is characterized by loud snoring and restless sleep. The coblation technique is extremely useful in such cases, as it significantly reduces complications in terms of both bleeding and pain.”
He also added, “Conducting this educational workshop for the first time at KIMS has surely seen the light of success, as we have overall improved the level of awareness and help them in learning curve amongst the doctors who participated.”
The LIVE workshop was organized by KIMS hospital’s Department of ENT, Head & Neck Surgery in collaboration with the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, Hyderabad Branch and Smith & Nephew Healthcare. It had 6 varying surgeries being demonstrated throughout the day, which benefited the doctor attendees on a large scale. The other guest faculty of the workshop included Dr. Deenadayal MBBS, MS (ENT), DLO, Yashoda Hospitals, Dr.Ranga Reddy Sirigiri MS (ENT), MD (USA, Ozone Hospitals and Dr.K.V. Ravi Kishoe MS (ENT) Deccan Hospital.
