CHEMOTHERAPY

Chemotherapy works by killing cancer cells throughout the body. Sometimes it may be the only cancer treatment needed. But often, it is combined with other treatments. For example, chemotherapy may be given after surgery or radiation therapy to destroy any remaining cancer in the body. This is called adjuvant therapy.

In other cases, chemotherapy may be given before surgery or radiation to help shrink a tumor prior to treatment. This is called neoadjuvant therapy. Our oncologists are leaders in using chemotherapy combined with the newest targeted therapies, including monoclonal antibodies. These drugs "attach" themselves to cancer cells so they cannot grow.

INTENSITY MODULATED RADIATION THERAPY

The radiation specialists at our medical center are experts in using IMRT to deliver the most benefits--with the fewest possible side effects--to cancer patients. IMRT is so effective that it is now considered the standard of care for difficult-to-treat cancers of the head and neck, rectum, pancreas and other areas. Combining this advanced technique with years of experience, radiation oncologists can maintain excellent cancer control rates yet limit the long-term toxic effects of radiation on healthy organs.

RADIATION THERAPY

We offer a full range of conventional and ssophisticated radiation techniques such as interstitial brachytherapy, high-doserate brachytherapy, isotope therapy using strontium 89, stereotactic radiosurgery, body radiosurgery for metastasis treatment, total body irradiation, total skin electron therapy, radioisotope source implants, prostate seed implants and superficial X-ray therapy. Our radiation oncologists constantly develop and perfect new approaches for cancer targeting and treatment delivery thus designing individualized treatments for each patient, optimizing the patient outcome by maximizing tumor control while minimizing effects on non-tumor tissues.

SURGERY

While surgery is one of the first treatment options prescribed for cancer patients, our surgeons have mastered minimally invasive surgery – performing surgical procedures through tiny cuts rather than long incisions – to speed recovery and to reduce pain, scarring, and tissue damage.
