Hyderabad, April 23rd, 2017: The Anaesthesiology department of the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences ( KIMS Hospitals) in association with the ‘Brain & Spine Society’ has conducted a two-day hands-on workshop for training of Anaesthesiologists on the advancements in Ultrasound Guided Peri-Operative Nerve Blocks. The objective of the workshop was to disseminate knowledge among the training and practicing anaesthesiologists regarding the use of ultrasound in perioperative nerve blocks.

The workshop was significant due to the widespread use of ultrasound for safe and effective nerve blocks in perioperative setup. We took the opportunity to create a platform to enhance awareness and share knowledge.

The workshop was conducted by experienced faculty, from within and outside the state, under the guidance of Dr C Naresh Kumar Reddy, HOD, Department of Anaesthesiology, KIMS hospital, Secunderabad.

The two day session featured lectures on the basics of ultrasound and hands on workshop on various perioperative nerve blocks of the body. The emphasis has been more on the hands on workshop as the delegates get a chance to learn first hand the handling and nuances of ultrasound from our experienced faculty.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr B Bhaskar Rao, MD, KIMS hospitals said, “We at KIMS are committed to setting up platform for knowledge sharing and training. Besides the core health care, we have always been committed to create these training opportunities. Ultrasound in perioperative nerve blocks facilitates a safe and effective alternative for general anaesthesia in high risk patients and also as a means for pain relief during the pre and postoperative setting. It is replacing the older blind techniques by providing a real time imaging of the neuroanatomy."

This is the first time KIMS hospital has organized such a programme. Together we shall conduct many such programmes in the future for the training of anaesthesiologists to make perioperative nerve blocks safe and effective.
