Pulmonology and Sleep Disorder Diagnostic Tests

  1. Spirometry: This simple pulmonology test can diagnose and monitor various lung conditions by measuring the amount of air a patient can breathe out within one forced breath. It is done using a spirometer and can be done in an outpatient setting.[BM8.1]
  2. Lung function tests: This pulmonology test list is done to understand the working of lungs, which helps in diagnosing and/or monitoring lung diseases. They help in understanding the health of the airways.
  3. In-Lab Polysomnography (Overnight Sleep Study): This gold standard test is done to diagnose the sleep disorder, utilising the advanced monitoring technology at KIMS-Arete Hospital in order to capture physiological data during natural sleep cycles in detail. Conducted in our comfortable, hotel-like sleep hospital environment, the polysomnography test simultaneously records brain activity, eye movements, breathing, oxygen levels, heart rhythm, movement, etc. Our certified sleep technologists provide continuous monitoring and ensure patient comfort while gathering precise data essential for diagnosing complex sleep disorders such as Sleep Apnoea or Parasomnias, etc.
  4. Split-Night Study: This study is often performed using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). In this study both inspiratory and expiratory pressures can be increased throughout the polysomnography recording to determine the single fixed pressure that will eliminate respiratory disturbances. In this study, half the night is diagnostic; the other half is used to begin CPAP treatment if sleep apnoea is confirmed. Through this test immediate treatment guidance can be given to sleep apnoea patients.[BM10.1]
  5. CPAP/BiPAP Titration Study: CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, and BiPAP stands for Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure. Both BiPAP and CPAP machines are very similar in function, and in both methods, air is blown into the air passages to help the patient to breathe well. These are used to fine-tune the air pressure settings for CPAP or BiPAP therapy after a diagnosis of sleep apnoea. Through this procedure, sleep apnoea treatment can be optimised.[BM11.1]
  6. Home Sleep Apnoea Test (HSAT): A simplified test done in the comfort of the patients’ home with a portable device. It is used to detect moderate-to-severe sleep apnoea cases in adults without other major health issues.
  7. Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT): In this daytime study, time to fall asleep is measured (how quickly the patient falls asleep). It can diagnose narcolepsy or unexplained daytime sleepiness.
  8. Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT): This study assesses the ability of the patient to stay awake during the day. It can evaluate treatment effectiveness or job-related safety requirements.
  9. Lung Ultrasound (LUS): KIMS-Arete Hospital is at the forefront of diagnostic excellence, employing lung ultrasound as a bedside, real-time, and radiation-free imaging modality. Particularly advantageous in the care of critically ill patients, our expert team excels in identifying and managing complications such as pneumothorax, dyspnoea, interstitial artefacts, pleural effusion, Diaphragm Dysfunction, and Ventilator-associated Pneumonia through this non-invasive technique. With a commitment to precision and efficiency, Lung Ultrasound seamlessly integrates into other ultrasound modalities, ensuring swift and accurate insights. Our approach prioritises tailored respiratory care, addressing individual needs and providing advanced diagnostic solutions for enhanced patient outcomes.
  10. Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT): Discover unparalleled respiratory care at KIMS-Arete Hospital, where the Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), under the guidance of our expert Pulmonologists, goes beyond routine assessments. This advanced noninvasive diagnostic test measures Lung capacity, airflow, and gas exchange, providing a profound insight into the respiratory function. PFTs empower our team to identify underlying issues, guide specifically tailored treatment plans, and foster optimal Lung health.
  11. Six Minute Walk Test (6MWT): Experience a new standard in respiratory diagnostics at KIMS-Arete Hospital with the introduction of the 6-Minute Walking Test. Under the guidance of our skilled Pulmonologists, this distinctive test goes beyond traditional assessments, meticulously measuring aerobic capacity and endurance. Aligned with our commitment to precision, the 6MWT unravels intricacies in overall health, ensuring optimal outcomes and personalised insights throughout the respiratory care journey.
  12. Bronchoscopy: This a minimally invasive procedure by which the pulmonologist assesses the airways and lungs through a flexible or rigid bronchoscope (a thin tube with a camera to diagnose, evaluate lungs, trachea or throat).[BM12.1]
  13. AI-Based Sleep Study: Step into a new era of sleep diagnostics with our cutting-edge, AI-powered Sleep Study at the Department of Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders at KIMS-Arete Hospital. Using an FDA-approved wearable ring, this innovative test redefines comfort and precision in diagnosing obstructive sleep apnoea. Seamlessly monitoring oxygen levels, heart rate, and sleep cycles from the comfort of your home, it offers a hassle-free, wireless experience.
