Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): When harmful germs invade the urinary tract, it can cause infection especially in women. At least 40% of females and 12% of males may experience a UTI.
Interstitial cystitis: This condition causes long-term discomfort or pain in the bladder and abdominal area, associated with urgency and urinary frequency. It could be due to infections or autoimmune diseases.
Prostatitis: A painful condition of prostate gland inflammation which could also spread to other areas around the prostate in few cases. Men suffering from nerve damage in the lower urinary tract due to surgery or trauma could risk developing prostatitis.[BM7.1]
Straddle injuries: These are genital traumas which occur by accidental falls on objects such as on the arms of chairs, playground equipment, bicycle cross bars etc. Most straddle injuries are not serious and do not usually extend to the genitalia.[BM8.1]
Bladder trauma: A relatively rare injury which results due to a direct hit to the bladder or an injury to the pelvis, swelling the bladder. Bladder traumas are classified as extraperitoneal (EP), intraperitoneal (IP), or mixed injuries, which determine the treatment plan. [BM9.1]
Genital injuries: These traumatic conditions (eg: penile, scrotal, and vaginal trauma) are associated with pelvic and vascular organ injuries. Primarily seen among the young people, the genital injuries can negatively impact health-related quality of life.[BM10.1]
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Enlarged prostate gland, which is also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, is a condition characterized by an increase in the prostate gland's size. It is ubiquitous in older men.
Kidney cancer: Also called renal cancer, this condition causes abnormal growth of cells in kidneys showing symptoms of flank pain (pain in the side radiating to the back), weight loss, fatigue, blood in urine, etc. It occurs due to mutations in the DNA.
Testicular cancer: The testes in men produce sperm and male hormones. Testicular carcinoma causes abnormal growth of cells in testis. The symptoms include a lump in the testicle, a dull aching in the groin, back pain, etc.
Bladder cancer: The bladder stores the urine to excrete it when it is filled. Bladder cancer includes abnormal growth of cells in the lining of the bladder. The most common form of bladder cancer starts in the organ's innermost tissue layer since it is constantly in contact with carcinogens (cancer-producing agents) that enter the bloodstream and get filtered through the kidneys.
Ureterocele: This congenital condition is characterised by a blockage in one or both the ureters, preventing urine flow. A ureterocele appears as a balloon-like structure at the end of the ureter that opens into the bladder.
Kidney Stones & Ureteral Stones: (also called renal lithiasis or renal calculi), kidney stones are formed from dissolved substances in urine. They form solid crystals resulting into stones from concentrated urine. Ureteral stones are kidney stones that move into the ureter.
Erectile Dysfunction: This condition is characterized by the failure to achieve a penile erection necessary for the participation of satisfactory sexual intercourse. It may be referred as impotence. The incidence of erectile dysfunction is low in men younger than 40 years but increases as men age.[BM11.1]
Male Infertility: While infertility can be attributed to both genders, male infertility is seen in about 20% of cases. It is the inability of the male to make a fertile female pregnant for a minimum of at least 1 year of regular unprotected intercourse. [BM12.1]
Premature Ejaculation: Affecting up to 30%-75% of men, the premature ejaculation, is a common male sexual disorder, which occurs when semen is prematurely released during sexual activity.
