Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Patients at KIMS Paediatric Intensive Care Unit are cared for by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, specialist nurses, technicians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dieticians, healthcare assistants and administrative support assistants. We have close links to many other services including psychologists and child care specialists. We are committed to providing family-centred care and encourage families to be an integral part of the team and present as much as they wish throughout their child's stay. Critical illness or injury occurs when impending or existing failure of the respiratory, circulatory, nervous or gastrointestinal systems threatens or impairs the balance of oxygen and substrate supply and demand. Unless this state is prevented or reversed promptly, cells of the body will sustain injury or die.

The many physicians, nurses and allied medical care professionals who work in the unit have the knowledge, skill and judgment to quickly assess and treat patients so these children can achieve the best outcomes possible from critical illness or injury. Equipped with advanced technology, our team improves survival, speeds recovery, minimizes disability and relieves pain and suffering in a humane and respectful manner.
