About:

Dr. Amarnath Kadimella is a Senior Consultant and Lead HPB and Liver Transplant Surgeon at KIMS Hospitals, Hyderabad, with cumulative experience of over 2,000 liver transplants performed across leading transplant centres in the United States and India. His clinical practice spans the full spectrum of hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery and abdominal solid organ transplantation, with deep expertise in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT), split liver, pediatric liver transplantation, and combined kidney–pancreas transplantation for patients with Type 1 diabetes complicated by end-stage renal disease.

He is one of a small group of Indian surgeons board-certified by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) as a Certified Abdominal Transplant Surgeon, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He completed his advanced transplant fellowship at the Methodist University Hospital, University of Tennessee Health Science Centre, USA and has served on the faculty there, as well as at Children’s Mercy Hospital / University of Missouri Kansas City.

  • Liver transplantation — Over 2,000 liver transplants performed across United States and Indian transplant programs
  • Living donor liver transplant (LDLT) — More than 1,000 living donor liver transplants (LDLT), including pure laparoscopic and robotic donor hepatectomy
  • Split & pediatric liver transplant — Split liver transplantation and pediatric liver transplantation, including transplantation for biliary atresia, metabolic liver disease and acute liver failure in children
  • DCD liver transplant — Donation after circulatory death (DCD) liver transplantation and normothermic machine perfusion experience from US transplant programs
  • Kidney & pancreas transplantation — Simultaneous pancreas–kidney (SPK) and pancreas-after-kidney transplantation for Type 1 diabetes mellitus with end-stage renal disease
  • HPB oncology & complex surgery — Liver resections for HCC and cholangiocarcinoma, pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple), distal pancreatectomy, complex biliary reconstruction and management of post-ERCP perforations
  • Minimally invasive HPB surgery — Laparoscopic and robotic liver, pancreas and biliary surgery; UNOS/OPTN certified independent donor liver, pancreas and kidney procurement
