HOD & Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist
Dr. Sreekala Padmanabhan is a renowned Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with over 15 years of experience in interventional cardiology after completing her DM. She earned her MBBS (1998), MD in General Medicine (2002), and DM in Cardiology (2007) from Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. In 2013, she also attained FSCAI certification in cardiology.
She began her teaching career in 2001 as a Senior Lecturer in Cardiology at the Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. In 2007, she joined the Medical College, Kottayam as an Assistant Professor. In 2008, she played a pivotal role in establishing the Interventional Cardiology Department and launching the Cath Lab at Sankers Hospital, Kollam. She was later appointed as the Director of the Interventional Cardiology Department in 2013. She has also served as a Senior Consultant at KIMS Health, Kottiyam, and Meditrina Hospital, Kollam. Currently, she is the Head of the Department and Senior Consultant – Interventional Cardiology at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).
Her expertise is reflected in the major procedures she has performed, which include over 8,000 coronary angiograms, 4,000 coronary angioplasties, and 2,500 primary angioplasties, 90% of which were done via the radial route. Additionally, she has successfully performed 450 permanent pacemaker implantations, 72 dual-chamber pacemakers, 258 peripheral angioplasties, and 15 interventions for acute limb ischemia.
Dr. Sreekala is one of the first doctors in Kerala to implant an MRI-compatible pacemaker, having completed over 90 such implantations to date. This includes two cases involving dual-chamber pacemakers with home monitoring capabilities.
She performed South Kerala’s first endovascular intervention for acute limb ischemia in 2011, and presented this pioneering work at the EUROPCR International Meeting in Paris in 2012.
