Doctors at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, successfully treated a 32-year-old woman doctor from Maharashtra who developed severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) following influenza pneumonia.
As her condition worsened despite ventilator support, the KIMS ECMO retrieval team, led by Dr. Vamsi Krishna, initiated ECMO at the referring hospital in Solapur and safely transported her overnight to Hyderabad while maintaining life-support throughout the journey.
Under the care of Dr. Vishal Kumar Chitikeshi and the multidisciplinary critical care team, the patient received advanced ECMO support, mechanical ventilation, and intensive rehabilitation. After 25 days of treatment, she made a successful recovery.
This case highlights the importance of timely ECMO intervention, coordinated critical care, and specialized retrieval services in managing life-threatening respiratory emergencies.
