Doctors at KIMS Hospitals, Kurnool, successfully performed a rare and complex procedure to remove a 16-mm kidney stone from a woman in her early second trimester of pregnancy, ensuring the safety of both mother and baby.
The patient was admitted with severe flank pain and fever after a ureteric stent failed to provide relief. Led by Dr. Y. Manoj Kumar (HOD & Senior Consultant Urologist, Andrologist, Infertility Specialist, Laparoscopic & Transplant Surgeon) the multidisciplinary team performed a Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) using advanced laser technology under general anaesthesia.
The procedure was completed successfully without complications. Post-operative evaluation confirmed complete stone clearance, while the baby's growth and cardiac activity remained normal.
This case highlights the expertise of the multidisciplinary team at KIMS Hospitals in managing complex urological conditions during pregnancy.
