Acute Kidney failure occurs when your kidneys lose the ability to filter the wastes, salts and fluids. When they do not get filtered they get accumulated in the body which can be life threatening. It could be because of a renal failure or an acute kidney injury.

  • Surgery

There are certain other disorders as well that account for the failure of the kidneys. Clots in the blood vessels too lead to acute kidney failure. They include:

  • Maliganant hypertension
  • Transfusion reaction
  • Sceroderma

Diagnosis :

The test results that show abnormal ranges affirm the condition of an acute kidney failure. The tests include:

  • Serum potassium
  • Serum sodium
  • Creatinine clearance
  • Estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)
  • Urine analysis

Apart from that abdominal x-ray, CT scan, abdominal MRI also determines a blockage in your urinary tract.

Treatment :

Fix an appointment with the nephrologist KIMS Hospitals, Hyderabad, who will evaluate your condition and then will he initiate a Kidney failure treatment. In most cases, the initial goal is to restore kidney function. Consumption of fluids is restricted. A diet rich in carbohydrates and low in potassium, salt and protein is advised.

Simultaneously, antibiotics are given to avoid any infections that occur at that same time. In order to balance the blood potassium levels, calcium and insulin is maintained. Diuretics are given to eliminate fluids from the body.

Dialysis becomes essential in few other cases. The body is connected to an external machine where the blood is diverted from the body in to the machine and filters the waste from the system. The filtered blood later enters the body. Dialysis is recommended especially when your potassium levels are high; when there is a change in your mental state; when you stop urinating; if you have pericarditis; or inflammation in the heart.
