HEPATITIS C–COMPLICATIONS

Dr. Sethu Babu, Thursday, November 7, 2019

Hepatitis-C can be life-threatening if it goes untreated leading to liver cancer, cirrhosis or even liver failure. Today, the treatment procedures are so unique that when administered at the right time can cure Hepatitis C for most of its patients. It’s always good to visit your doctor if you are doubtful or are at risk of Hepatitis C.

CIRRHOSIS:

The Scar tissue that develops around the liver over a period of 20 years or even more replacing the hard tissue with the soft that in turn affects the overall function of the liver is Cirrhosis. Not necessarily that the consumption of alcohol leads to scarring of the tissue. Fibrosis is the first stage of cirrhosis where the scarring of the tissue slowly develops. One may experience the following symptoms.

  • Abdominal pain
  • Tiredness
  • Nausea
  • Itching
  • Jaundice
  • Weight loss

Patients who complain of Liver issues such as Cirrhosis experience fluid retention in the abdomen that leads to confusion. Treating liver diseases used to be a myth once upon a time in medical science and was considered as a serious issue. Today the on-going research has led to new treatment procedures that have proven to cure liver diseases including the scarring that may further damage the liver.

LIVER CANCER:

Every organ is prone to cancer. Likewise liver too can develop cancer. When it does the cells in the liver reproduce faster which leads to the tumour and other complications. People who already have had Hepatitis C are at risk of liver cancer once Cirrhosis has attacked the liver. Cirrhosis poses no symptoms and hence it becomes difficult to determine the stage of the disease or the conditions of the liver unless you go in for the required tests.

LIVER FAILURE

A liver transplant becomes necessary when the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. The yellowing of skin and eyes, the fluid retention in the abdomen and the legs, a confused state of mind of the patient and internal bleeding in the stomach requires immediate liver transplant.

The treatment procedures have improved creating hope and zest for life in patients with Hepatitis C. The time duration for cure has considerably reduced and there by the anxiety and stress levels have also eased in the patients. The treatment procedures have been unique to the patients’ needs and oral medications are considered when the threat is not as serious as that of a liver transplant. A strict diet pattern during the treatment will support the medication and enable faster cure.

The Surgical procedure of a liver transplant is one of a delicate nature and the experts at Hyderabad conduct the transplant surgeries successfully. Continuous monitoring of the patient is also essential to check if the body has accepted the new organ and is supporting the other normal functions of the body. The doctors ensure that he is taken care before and after the transplant and until he resumes to a normal life.Hence, the liver transplants in Hyderabad are conducted with atmost care and concern.
