While celebrations lit up social media, mental health helplines in Hyderabad were overwhelmed with calls from young people struggling with loneliness, heartbreak, and emotional memories tied to past relationships. Experts say many weren’t in crisis — but were seeking connection during a moment culturally associated with togetherness.
🩺 Dr. Charan Teja Koganti, Consultant Psychiatrist at KIMS Hospitals, Kondapur, explains this as an “anniversary reaction” — when specific dates revive emotions linked to people or moments no longer present.
“These periods can also present as adjustment disorder, especially after break-ups or loss,” he notes, adding that winter can intensify mood swings.
Let’s normalize conversations around mental health and be kinder to those who may be silently struggling.
